Vă invit să intrăm în spiriul Crăciunului cu acest flash fiction/ I invite you to get into the spirit of Christmas with this flash fiction:
The girl suddenly opened her eyes finding herself in a cozy bed wrapped in a woolly blanket. Her knee was bandaged and she was wearing a nightgown. The room was decorated with lights and tinsel. Just as she was about to admire the small tree on the nightstand, a dwarf with pointy ears entered the room followed by a plump bearded jolly old man in a red suit.
“Ho-ho-ho! The angel finally woke up,” the jolly man addressed to her.
“Don’t be afraid,” the dwarf intervened noticing her hesitation. “You’re safe here.”
“Who wouldn’t be safe with Santa Clause,” said a voice.
She startled when a winged creature appeared in front of her out of nowhere. After apologizing for her behavior, the little one introduced herself as Sugar.
“This is Elfson, the elf and I bet you know who I am,” said Santa.
“What’s your name?” asked Sugar.
“No one bothered to give me a name,” replied the girl with sadness. “The Headmistress said it’s a waste of time to give names to orphans.”
“Then we’ll name you Mary like the Mother of the Newborn King. Your heart is as pure as Hers.”
Mary just nodded.
“You were lucky that Sugar and Rudolph found you, otherwise you would have froze solid.”
“What were you doing there all alone?” asked the fairy.
“While cleaning the orphanage with the other children I stumbled upon a secret room and found out that Headmistress is actually a witch in disguise. Thanks to a telltale, she found out and wanted to shut me up. I managed to escape, but she went after me. As I tripped and fell, she beat me till I lost consciousness.”
Elfson nodded with disapproval. “How cruel some creatures can be.”
Santa’s decision to adopt her and let her stay at the North Pole brought a smile on the poor girl’s face. After healing completely, Sugar gave her the tour of the enchanted land introducing her to the family. Mary petted the reindeer and giggled when Cupid nuzzled her cheek. The fairies did a snow show to welcome the guest. As the years went by, Mary learned that it wasn’t the decorations, the tree and the gifts that makes Christmas magical. It was the love, kindness, peace and joy this holiday spreads during the first month of the cold season.
